DESCRIPTION:Community Repairs by LOT at DTLB Farmers Market\nFirst Fridays | Downtown Long Beach Farmers Market\, 300 N Promenade 10am-12pm \n\n  \n  \nLOT station approaches repair as thinking-through-making. Items brought to the station are first inspected and discussed by the team. Priority is given to vintage objects\, heirlooms\, items with sentimental value\, and repairs that present interesting or conceptual challenges. Work carries a civic ethic\, sharing methods\, demystifying tools\, and treating repair as a public\, creative act rather than a utilitarian chore. \nThis is not a drop-off for free repair service; participation\, learning\, and intention are central to the process. \nFixing broken things foreground attention\, improvisation\, reuse\, and the dignity of craft. Not to hide repairs but lets them remain visible\, allowing brackets\, patches\, and odd joins to become part of an object’s story. SUMMARY:Music to My Eyes: Student Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Incredible music-inspired art by talented Long Beach H.S. students from Renaissance\, Millikan\, and St Anthony. Creativity on full display! \n\n\n\nSTUDENT ART PROJECT\nMulti-discipline art expression with music\, paint\, and photography. \nLocal high school art students were assigned a song\, preferably one they were not too familiar with\, and were tasked with painting what the song inspired in them. \nSongs from genres as different as jazz\, hard rock\, classical\, and from the Great American Song Book\, were selected from multiple sources considered as “the greatest songs of all time” and assigned randomly to the artists who signed up for the project. \nThe students were instructed to listen and ingest the music\, to let the song capture the imagination and inspire their art. DESCRIPTION:Slow down. Low light. Hands in flowers. A neuro-friendly ikebana class designed to quiet the nervous system. Long Beach \n\n\n\n\nJoin Aiyana Kyoko for Ikebana workshop at the Library of Technics\, Long Beach. \nLibrary of Technics invites artists and protectors of craft to the Broadcasting Program\, where the signal moves freely between source and receiver\, continuing the chain of knowledge. \nLOT Lab consists of practices in repetition\, critical thinking\, and manual efficiency that support the formation and repair of neural pathways. \nUnder the instruction of Aiyana Kyoko\,the Instructor Certificate from the Ohara School in Japan participants will learn the Art of Ikebana. \nIkebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging with formal display according to strict rules emphasizing form and balance. \nThe art is based on the harmony of simple linear constructions and the appreciation of the subtle beauty of flowers and natural material\, such as branches and stems. There are several major ikebana schools\, with differing histories and theories of artistic style. \nAiyanas classes are influenced by Ikebana\, but are not Ikebana classes. Her creative practice called Tiger Blossom are rooted in practice of presence & technique to foster one’s creativity. \nParticipants will learn Kenzan and compositional techniques while guided by mindful and creative prompts to create an abstract floral arrangement unique to each student and the moment. \nThis is neurologically friendly class after hours\, with low lightning and quiet\, meditative energy. \nThis is a 2-hour introductory class; no prior experience is necessary.\nIntroductory materials are included.
