The DTLB Design District is a concentrated area within the urban core of Long Beach that serves as a thriving hub for creative, innovative, and design-focused activities. Our mission is to build an inclusive, sustainable Creator District that reflects Long Beach’s diverse community and fosters collaboration, creativity and economic empowerment. Through accessible, safe, and engaging spaces, we commit to create a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly hub where we can all thrive.
The District / History
Design Creates Value for Human Experience.
The DTLB Design District began with a simple realization: Downtown Long Beach already had the ingredients of a design district. It just needed to be connected.
The idea took shape in 2023, when Studio One Eleven brought the LA Design Festival to Downtown Long Beach. A few days of street activations, installations, and conversations revealed a thriving community of designers, makers, and creative institutions, and the potential for something bigger.
That initial spark gave us the confidence to keep the experiment going. A coalition formed with Studio One Eleven, Creative Class Collective, CSULB’s Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the Long Beach Community Design Center, and the Immersive Design Research Lab to build on the creative energy already here and shape it into something lasting.
Together, we’ve grown the district into a platform for creative exchange and experimentation that brings design into storefronts, sidewalks, streets, and public spaces to connect creators, support economic opportunity, and build community.
