Mission
We are a hub for creativity, design, and innovation in Long Beach’s urban core.
As a vibrant district, we foster community engagement and drive economic growth. By connecting creative organizations and businesses, we enrich cultural experiences and strengthen the local economy.
Our key initiatives include enhancing public spaces, hosting dynamic networking events, building infrastructure for creatives, streamlining regulations, and unlocking financial incentives to support the district’s continued growth.

Next DTLB Art + Design Walk is April 11
DTLB Art + Design Walk returns on April 11 (2–7 PM), transforming Downtown Long Beach into a walkable, open-air creative district. Inspired by Earth Month, this spring edition explores themes of renewal, materiality, and connection through immersive installations, exhibitions, workshops, and performances.
From interactive experiences and artist-led pop-ups to live music and a vibrant marketplace on the Promenade, the event brings together local and international creatives for an afternoon of discovery, collaboration, and community.

Studio One Eleven’s New Podcast Episode: Eating Our Own Cooking
Studio One Eleven’s “We’ve Never Done This Before” podcast returns with Episode 2, taking you inside their Downtown Long Beach workplace—an adaptive reuse project that evolved into a living experiment in community-driven design.
Partners Alan Pullman and Michael Bohn, alongside team members and collaborators, reflect on how moving from a disconnected high-rise to a street-level storefront didn’t just transform their office—it helped activate the surrounding neighborhood.
What began as a simple relocation grew into a collaborative Urban Lab, bringing together creatives, local businesses, and institutions, and helping shape what is now the Downtown Long Beach Design District. From the DTLB perspective, this space is more than a workplace—it’s a catalyst for connection, experimentation, and shared growth.
Together, they explore risk, reinvention, and what it means to “eat your own cooking”—testing ideas in real time and designing with the community, not just for it.

Future fest wraps up Downtown Debut
Future Fest landed in Downtown Long Beach, with the Space Beach Law Lab Conference at the center of it all.
Bringing together innovators, legal minds, creatives, and future-focused thinkers, the event transformed DTLB into a hub for bold ideas and next-generation conversations. Produced by Space Beach Law Lab, Future Fest explored the evolving intersections of technology, policy, entrepreneurship, and design, right in the heart of the Design District.
This annual conference will now call DTLB home.
CSULB Supports immersive design lab in dtlb
More Big news for DTLB! The CSULB Immersive Design Research Lab (IDRL) at Mosaic, a 14,000-square-foot space, has been activating the Design District for a year, as a public-facing hub for creative "design happenings.” From experimental high- and low-tech installations to photography, performance, and research, the lab has become a gathering space for people curious about the intersection of technology, art, design, and space.
Now, that momentum has official university backing. With a prestigious Beach 2030 Strategic Plan Award, IDRL has secured institutional support signaling CSULB’s long-term commitment to community-based design, industry collaboration, and real-world student engagement in a dynamic downtown setting. This is a major win for DTLB and the future of immersive design. Read more about it in CSULB News!
